The 32nd State-Level Hajagiri Festival-2024 is scheduled to take place on October 18-19 at the grounds of Ramguna Chaudhury Para Higher Secondary School under Pecharthal Block. Organized by the Blue Socio-Cultural Organization with the support of various departments of the state government, the festival will celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the state.
The festival will be inaugurated on October 18 at 5 PM by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Tinku Roy. Minister of Industries and Commerce, Santana Chakma, will grace the event as the chief guest. Other distinguished guests include Sudhanshu Das, Minister for SC Welfare, Shuklacharan Noatia, Minister for Cooperation, and MLAs Bhagaban Chandra Das, Pramod Reang, and Philip Kumar Reang. Executive Member of the TTAADC’s Information and Cultural Department, Sohel Debbarma, MDCs Sanjeev Reang, Bimal Chakma, and Swapnarani Das will also attend the event.
Additionally, special guests for the occasion include Amolendu Das, Chairperson of Unakoti Zila Parishad, Sajal Chakma, Chairman of Pecharthal BAC, Tapanjoy Reang, Chairman of Kumarghat BAC, Unakoti District Magistrate Dilip Kumar Chakma, and Superintendent of Police Kanta Jangir. The inauguration will be presided over by Shantirai Reang, the state president of Blue Socio-Cultural Organization.
The cultural events of the Hajagiri Festival will showcase not only the iconic Hajagiri dance but also performances that reflect the diverse cultural heritage of the state. These include Dhamaail dance, Shiva’s Gajan, Biju dance, Bihu dance, Mamita dance, and Cheraw dance, according to Lalbahadur Reang, General Secretary of Blue Socio-Cultural Organization.
He further stated that various exhibition stalls from different departments will be set up during the two-day festival, along with stalls featuring traditional attire, rituals, and cultural items from the Reang community and other indigenous groups. Additionally, self-help groups will display their products.
A seminar will be held on October 19 focusing on the socio-economic and cultural development of the Reang community, organized by the Blue Socio-Cultural Organization.
