Agartala, Oct 1: Legendary musician, composer, and lyricist Sachin Dev Burman remains etched in the hearts of the people of Tripura. His life and legacy continue to inspire new musical talents in the state. This sentiment was expressed by Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha during the birth anniversary celebration of Sachin Dev Burman, organized by the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala this evening.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister remarked that Sachin Dev Burman left behind royalty to connect with ordinary people through music. He made Tripura known to the world, showcasing the state’s rich musical culture. “His life is a beacon for future generations. Our students must learn how Sachin Dev Burman won the hearts of the nation through sheer dedication to his craft,” the Chief Minister said.
This year, the posthumous Sachin Dev Burman Memorial Award was conferred on the late classical singer Ratan Kumar Sengupta. The award was presented to his wife, Shipra Singh Sengupta, by the Chief Minister.
Agartala Mayor Deepak Majumder, who was a guest of honor, called Sachin Dev Burman a source of pride for Tripura, saying that his music has brought the state international recognition.
Dr. Pradip Kumar Chakraborty, Secretary of the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, paid tribute to the maestro’s lasting contributions, noting that his compositions remain relevant even today.
Similar celebrations were held in other subdivisions across the state, where guests paid floral tributes to Sachin Dev Burman and discussed his contributions to music.
