Tripura CM Assures Full Government Support for Cricket Development at TCA Award Ceremony
Agartala, September 14: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha pledged full support from the state government to promote cricket development, alongside other sports, during the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) Award Ceremony held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan today. The ceremony honored outstanding cricket players and teams from various tournaments between 2019 and 2024, celebrating their achievements.
In his address, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of fitness in sports, particularly cricket. He urged the TCA to provide proper training for budding cricketers, incorporating disciplines like yoga and gymnastics to enhance physical conditioning. “To shine at the national level, TCA must put in its best efforts, and the government will extend all necessary assistance,” he said.
Prof. Saha expressed hope that Tripura would soon host international cricket matches, revealing that discussions with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are underway to expedite the completion of the international cricket stadium at Narsingarh.
TCA also recognized exceptional individuals in various categories, including best player, best team, former cricketers, ground staff, scorers, and umpires.
Addressing the event, IPL Chairman Arun Singh Dhumal encouraged young players to focus on rigorous training and develop a sporting spirit alongside academics. He reassured the audience that the BCCI is committed to supporting cricket in Tripura.
Former cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar, speaking on the occasion, highlighted the potential for international cricket matches in Tripura in the near future.
Sports Minister Tinku Roy, TCA President Tapan Lodh, and Secretary Subrata Dey also addressed the ceremony, reiterating the state’s commitment to improving sports infrastructure under the guidance of the central government.
The event concluded with the dignitaries presenting awards to the successful players and teams, fostering hope for a bright future in Tripura’s cricketing landscape.
