Ambasa, June 26, 2024 — The 75th State-Level Vanomahotsav, or Forest Festival, was inaugurated today at Kulai 12th Class School grounds in Ambasa by Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma. Addressing the gathering, he underscored the vital role of forests in maintaining ecological balance and urged citizens to actively participate in their conservation.
“Humans cannot create forests. Nature itself has created forests. We must protect forest land and forest resources,” Debbarma stated in his opening remarks. He highlighted the accelerating destruction of forests and stressed the need for reforestation. “On July 5, a state-wide tree plantation drive will see the planting of 5 lakh saplings,” he announced, advocating for community involvement in these efforts.
MLAs Chittaranjan Debbarma, Manoj Kanti Deb, Paul Danshu, Sapna Das Pal, Nandita Debbarma Riang, and senior Forest Department officials attended the event. They collectively emphasized the significance of forest conservation.
In his speech, Chief Conservator of Forests, Sasikumar, reminded attendees of Vanomahotsav’s long-standing tradition since 1950, aimed at fostering environmental balance. The event also featured a cultural program with performances by students from Kulai 12th Class School and local artists.
The Forest Department distributed various tree saplings during the festival to promote widespread participation in the upcoming plantation initiative.
Minister Debbarma assured that the government is taking stringent measures against the destruction and illegal trade of forest resources. He encouraged public collaboration in these protective efforts and outlined the Forest Department’s plans for developing livelihoods centered around forest conservation.
