Agartala, June 26, 2024: The birth anniversary of the celebrated Bengali novelist and literary figure, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, was commemorated with reverence and enthusiasm across the state today. Various events and tribute programs were held to honor the “Literary Emperor” whose contributions have left an indelible mark on Indian literature.
The central celebration took place at Rabindra Bhawan in Agartala, organized by the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs . Distinguished guests and cultural enthusiasts gathered to pay homage and participate in a series of discussions and performances celebrating Bankim Chandra’s literary legacy.
In the North Tripura district, the Panisagar subdivision hosted a vibrant tribute event at the Panisagar Town Hall. Jointly organized by the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs , the Department of Education, and the Panisagar Nagar Panchayat, the program was inaugurated by Bhavatosh Das, President of North Tripura Zilla Parishad. The event featured speeches, cultural performances, and reflections on Bankim Chandra’s influence on Bengali literature and the Indian freedom struggle.
Unkoti district’s celebrations unfolded at Ambedkar Mahavidyalaya, Fatikrai, Kumarghat subdivision. Amlendu Das, President of Unkoti Zilla Parishad, highlighted the novelist’s pivotal role in the literary renaissance and his enduring inspiration in the fight for independence. The program included cultural showcases and a discourse on Bankim Chandra’s profound impact, with contributions from local educators and students.
In Dhalai district, the celebration at Bamanchara English Medium 12th Standard School, Kamalpur subdivision, was marked by a quiz and speech competition, engaging students in exploring Bankim Chandra’s literary works and his life. MLA Swapna Das Pal, who inaugurated the event, underscored the relevance of Chattopadhyay’s writings today.
Khowai district’s homage to Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay took place at Khowai Old Town Hall. The event featured a ceremonial tribute and a series of contests for students, focusing on the author’s significant contributions to Bengali literature. Subrata Majumder, Chairman of the Standing Committee of Khoai Zilla Parishad, inaugurated the function, which saw enthusiastic participation from students and local dignitaries.
Sipahijala district hosted its commemoration at the Sachin Devvarman Smriti Kalakshetra, Swatganj. The event was jointly organized by the Departments of Information and Cultural Affairs , and School Education, with the collaboration of the Sipahijala Zilla Parishad. Supriya Das Dutta, President of Sipahijala Zilla Parishad, opened the event with a speech on Bankim Chandra’s literary heritage. The celebration included a quiz competition, cultural performances, and an essay contest highlighting Chattopadhyay’s life and works.
In Gomati district, the Udaipur Town Hall was the venue for the tribute organized by the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs , Gomati Zilla Parishad, Udaipur Municipal Council, and the Department of Education. The event, inaugurated by Mayor Shital Majumdar, featured detailed discussions on Bankim Chandra’s literary achievements by poet and writer Mridul Debray. The event included vibrant cultural performances and competitions involving local school students.
