News 08 Sep,23: In the recent by-elections held on September 5 in Tripura’s Sepahijala district, the BJP emerged victorious in both the Dhanpur and Boxanagar assembly seats, as announced by the Election Commission.

In Boxanagar, Tafajjal Hossain of the BJP secured a significant win with 30,237 votes, while his closest rival, Mizan Hossain of the CPI(M), received only 3,909 votes.
Meanwhile, in the Dhanpur seat, BJP candidate Bindu Debnath won by a margin of 18,871 votes, garnering 30,017 votes, while Kaushik Chanda of the CPI(M) received 11,146 votes.
Notably, Boxanagar has a substantial minority population, with approximately 66% of the electorate belonging to this group. The voter turnout in both constituencies was commendable, averaging at 86.50%. The vote counting took place at Sonamura Girls’ School with stringent security measures in place.
