Tripura 13 March, 2025: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha announced plans to develop Bankul as one of the state’s major tourist destinations. He made this statement while inaugurating the 78th five-day Bankul Mahamuni Fair at the Bankul Mahamuni Temple premises in Manubanakul, Sabroom. During the event, the Chief Minister unveiled 28 Buddha statues and offered prayers at the temple. In his speech, CM Manik Saha emphasized the relevance of Lord Buddha’s teachings in promoting peace and harmony. He assured that the state government would provide full support for the speedy completion of Dhamma Dipa International Buddhist University in Sabroom.

This university will not only focus on religious education but also promote cultural activities, meditation, and sports, making it a world-class educational institution. Efforts will be made to make the Bankul Mahamuni Temple complex a major attraction for domestic and international tourists.
The Chief Minister urged everyone to maintain peace and harmony while enjoying the fair. The event was attended by MLA Mailafru Mog, International Buddhist University Chancellor Dr. Dhammapiya, South Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Deepak Dutta, MDC Kangjang Mog, Rupaichari BAC Chairman Rakhi Tripura, social worker Dipayan Chowdhury, Buddhist spiritual leader Venerable Shakya Gasan, and South Tripura District Magistrate Smita Mol.
The welcome speech was delivered by Sabroom Sub-Divisional Magistrate Shivjyoti Dutta. As part of the fair, exhibition stalls from 10 government departments were set up. The Department of Information & Cultural Affairs organized cultural programs to mark the occasion.
