Tripura, February 28, 2025: A discussion on raising awareness about the rights and dignity of third-gender individuals was held today at the conference hall of Kumarghat Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited. Organized by the Kumarghat ICDS Project, the session focused on the theme “Sensitization of Society Towards Third Gender Persons.”
Inaugurating the event, Kumarghat Municipal Council Chairperson Biswajit Das stated that neglecting and disrespecting third-gender individuals is inhumane. He emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring their rights and providing them with proper benefits. He also urged third-gender individuals to be aware of the government schemes available to them.
The chief guest, Sneha Gupta Roy, a member of the Tripura Third Gender Welfare Board and the president of Swabhiman, discussed the Transgender Protection Act 2019-20. Other speakers included DCM Gobinda Sarkar and Kumarghat School Education Inspector Birla Singh Kaloi. The event began with a welcome address by CDPO Haripada Debnath and was presided over by Kumarghat Panchayat Samiti Vice Chairman Shankar Deb.
Among the attendees were Dr. Lopamudra Das, Senior Information Officer Subhasish Sengupta, and social worker Kartik Das. A large number of Anganwadi and ASHA workers also participated in the session.
