Assam 10 Feb, 2025: In a significant development, Guwahati Police has registered an FIR against popular YouTubers and social influencers, including Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, Apoorva Makhija, Ashish Chanchlani, and Jaspreet Singh, for allegedly promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit discussions in their show ‘India’s Got Latent’.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma himself informed the public about the action through social media, stating:
“Today, @GuwahatiPol has registered an FIR against certain YouTubers and social influencers for promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit and vulgar discussion in a show titled ‘India’s Got Latent’.”
The Guwahati Crime Branch has registered the case under Cyber PS Case No. 03/2025, invoking multiple sections of Indian law, including:
* Sections 79, 95, 294, 296 of BNS 2023
* Section 67 of the IT Act, 2000
* Sections 4 and 7 of the Cinematograph Act, 1952
* Sections 4 and 6 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986
The Assam government has taken a zero-tolerance stance against obscene content in public platforms, and this FIR marks a strong crackdown on content creators allegedly violating laws related to indecency and public morality.
