Bharti Airtel Allotted Land to Set Up Advanced Data Center in Tripura: IT Minister
Agartala 10 Jan, 2025: The Tripura government has allotted one acre of land in Lichubagan to telecom giant Bharti Airtel Limited for the establishment of a state-of-the-art Tier-III data center, IT Minister Pranjit Singha Roy announced during the state assembly session. The project involves an investment of over ₹200 crore and is expected to generate employment for more than 200 people.
The IT department has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NIXI-CSC Data Services Limited for setting up an advanced data center in the state. Another company, PVML Invencis Private Limited, has proposed to invest ₹100 crore for a Tier-IV data center in Tripura, which is expected to create jobs for over 100 individuals.
While discussing a private member’s resolution brought by MLA Abhishek Debroy, the IT minister highlighted the government’s efforts to attract renowned IT companies to the state. The resolution urged the government to encourage investments and expand the IT sector, ultimately creating employment opportunities for the state’s youth.
Pranjit Singha Roy also shared updates on the state’s IT initiatives. Tripura Data Center Policy 2021 was launched to drive economic growth and accelerate the IT sector’s development. The policy aims to attract investments in the data center industry and create employment opportunities.
Under the Tripura IT/ITES Startup Scheme, 26 startups have received financial assistance of over ₹1 crore, employing more than 135 educated youths. A total of 127 startups in the state have been registered under the DPIIT, generating jobs for over 800 individuals. Additionally, eight educational institutions have been included under the New Generation Innovation Network, benefiting 160 students through funding of ₹1.2 crore across 55 projects.
Private companies like Basiz Fund Services Private Limited and iLogitron Technologies have established offices in Tripura, creating job opportunities for 23 and 10 individuals, respectively. Furthermore, seven IT companies operating from the Software Technology Park in the state have employed 75 people.
To support digital education, the government has introduced Wi-Fi facilities in 19 colleges, with 11 more colleges recently receiving similar upgrades. Under the Mukhyamantri Yuba Yogayog Yojana, ₹25.39 crore has been disbursed to 50,771 students between 2020-21 and 2024-25.
The minister emphasized that the government will continue to encourage investments from prominent IT companies, both domestic and international, as part of its mission to build a “Digital Tripura.” The private resolution was unanimously adopted by the assembly.
