Agartala, December 24, 2024: In the bustling city of Agartala, where modernization is rapidly transforming the urban landscape, there’s one name that stands out for her unwavering dedication to keeping the city’s traffic in check: Sabita Devi.
For over two decades, Sabita Devi has been a familiar sight on the city’s roads, her baton a symbol of authority and order. Despite the introduction of advanced traffic signals and CCTV surveillance, it’s Sabita Devi who has been the backbone of Agartala’s traffic management.
“Sabita Devi is more than just a traffic controller; she’s a guardian of our city,” said a local rickshaw puller. “Her presence ensures that even the busiest junctions run smoothly.”
Known for her strict adherence to rules and her no-nonsense attitude, Sabita Devi has earned the respect of both commuters and her colleagues. Despite working in challenging conditions, she remains committed to her job, often going above and beyond the call of duty.
Sabita Devi joined the Home Guard service in 1992 and began her role as a traffic controller in Agartala in 1995. Since then, she has dedicated herself to ensuring the smooth flow of traffic in the city.
However, like many unsung heroes, Sabita Devi faces her own set of challenges. As a home guard, her salary is significantly lower compared to other government employees. Despite her years of service and the invaluable contribution she makes to the city, she has yet to receive the recognition she deserves.
“I’ve dedicated my life to this city,” Sabita Devi said. “While I’m grateful for the small increments in our salaries, I hope that the government will consider regularizing our jobs and providing us with better benefits.”
As Agartala continues to grow, it’s important to remember the people who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the city running smoothly. Sabita Devi is a shining example of such dedication and deserves to be celebrated.
