Agartala 12 December, 2024: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha inaugurated the A-HELP (Accredited Agent for Health and Extension of Livestock Production) program at Agartala’s Pragna Bhavan, emphasizing the importance of livestock in the state’s economic growth. Organized by the Department of Animal Resources Development in collaboration with the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM), the event witnessed the participation of around 300 women livestock assistants (Pashu Sakhi) from self-help groups.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Saha highlighted the critical role of livestock in strengthening rural economies and ensuring self-sufficiency in essential food items like milk and eggs. He noted that A-HELP will empower trained Pashu Sakhis to act as frontline representatives, providing primary animal healthcare services in remote areas where veterinary assistance is scarce.
“These trained women will serve as Livestock Resource Persons, disseminating knowledge and providing vital services to rural livestock farmers. Currently, there are 1,077 active Pashu Sakhis in the state. Under the A-HELP program, they will receive scientific training to enhance their skills and efficiency,” the Chief Minister stated. He added that 10 state officials have already undergone training from the National Dairy Development Board to lead the program’s implementation.
CM Saha also highlighted the government’s focus on improving veterinary infrastructure in Tripura, with 16 hospitals, 64 dispensaries, and 463 sub-health centers currently operational. These facilities provide medical services and implement various development schemes for livestock.
Minister for Animal Resources Development, Sudhanshu Das, shared details about the program, stating that 300 Pashu Sakhis will undergo a 16-day training program and will receive essential kits upon completion. He emphasized that A-HELP will not only safeguard animal health but also create employment opportunities for women, empowering them financially and contributing to the state’s economic growth. The minister also mentioned plans to establish Dairy Development Centers in each district to achieve self-sufficiency in milk production.
The event also featured a short documentary on the A-HELP program. Other dignitaries present included ARD Secretary Deepa D. Nair, NDDB Deputy Group Head (Cooperative Training) Anindita Baidya, TRLM Chief Executive Officer Ajit Shukladas, and ARD Director Dr. N.K. Chanchal.
During the event, CM Saha and other guests distributed training kits to the Pashu Sakhis and expressed optimism about the program’s successful implementation in Tripura.
