Agartala, June 23, 2024: In a significant operation, Agartala Railway Police arrested nine Bangladeshi nationals at Agartala railway station on Saturday for illegally crossing the international border. The detainees, including six women, were identified as Nilupa Begum, Jannati Akhtar, Miraj Khan, Akash Howladar, Liton Howladar, Salma Begum, Ripon Pramanik, Ibrahim Akund, and Surbhi Ali. They were intercepted while attempting to board trains to various Indian cities, including Delhi, Bangalore, and Gujarat.
OC Tapas Das of the Agartala Railway Police Station reported the arrests to the media on Sunday. The apprehended individuals will be produced in court later that day. According to OC Das, incidents of illegal entry by Bangladeshi nationals have been on the rise, with an increasing number being caught at railway stations across the state.
Authorities believe that brokers are aiding these illegal crossings, facilitating movement within India. An investigation is underway to identify and apprehend these brokers. The police have intensified surveillance and are committed to curbing such activities.
