Agartala 21, November 23: The Transport Minister of Tripura, Sushant Choudhury, has urged the Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Jyotiraditya Scindia, to reconsider the imposition of a service charge of thirty rupees on each autorickshaw operating under the prepaid auto service at Agartala’s MBB Airport. In a letter sent on Monday, Minister Choudhury highlighted the burden this additional charge places on passengers, already paying a regular fare along with the airport authority’s service fee.
Minister Choudhury emphasized that the state government, through the Transport Department, had already reduced the service charge for regular autos to ten rupees per ride, making prepaid auto services more affordable for commuters. He further explained that Agartala’s MBB Airport falls under the C category, where no taxes are applicable, making the additional service charge seem disproportionate and burdensome for passengers.
The Transport Minister also brought to the Union Minister’s attention the government’s ongoing efforts to improve transportation services, citing the successful implementation of prepaid auto services at the airport a few months ago. He concluded the letter by expressing hope for a favorable response and hinted at the state government’s consideration of introducing taxi services at the airport in the near future.
The move to address these concerns aims to enhance the overall commuting experience for air travelers arriving at Agartala Airport, aligning with the state’s commitment to improving transportation services and convenience for its citizens and visitors alike.
