Agartala, September 10: On the upcoming Monday, September 12, 2023, the newly elected members of the Thirteenth Tripura Legislative Assembly will take their oaths. On this day, at 12:00 PM, the newly elected members Tafazzul Hussain from the 20-Boxanagar constituency and Bindu Debnath from the 23-Dhanpur constituency will be sworn in at the Tripura Legislative Assembly Secretariat, as announced in a press release by the Tripura Legislative Assembly Secretariat. It’s worth noting that in the recent by-elections held on September 5th, Tafazzul Hussain, the BJP candidate, emerged victorious in the 20-Boxanagar constituency, defeating his closest rival, Mizan Hussain of the CPI(M), with 34,146 votes. Mizan Hussain secured 3,909 votes in the contest.
Additionally, in the same election center, independent candidate Md. Selim received 181 votes, and another independent candidate, Ratna Hussain, secured 144 votes. On the other hand, in the 23-Dhanpur constituency, BJP candidate Bindu Debnath triumphed over his nearest competitor, Kaushik Chanda, a CPI(M) supporter. Bindu Debnath garnered 30,177 votes, while Kaushik Chanda received 11,146 votes. In this constituency, independent candidate Anil Riya gained 544 votes, while another independent candidate, Bapi Debnath, secured 426 votes. With these by-election results, the BJP coalition now holds a significant presence in the Tripura Legislative Assembly, with 34 seats, while the CPI(M) has 11 seats, making the political landscape in the assembly more competitive.
