Tripura, 20 August 2026: A severe shortage of teachers at Kanchanbari Dhansingh Chowdhury English Medium Memorial H.S. School in Kumarghat subdivision triggered a major protest on Thursday, as parents and students took to the streets demanding immediate appointment of more teachers.
The school’s morning section has around 392 students but only four teachers, according to a teacher at the school. Parents alleged that the shortage is seriously affecting the academic environment and the quality of education being provided to the students.
During the protest, parents and students reportedly brought the children outside the school premises, blocked the road using bamboo poles and raised slogans demanding more teachers.
“Teachers needed! Teachers needed!” students and parents chanted during the demonstration.
The protesters also locked the school gates from outside, leading to teachers and other staff remaining inside the premises for some time.
A teacher said that after the morning prayer at around 10 am, parents suddenly took the students outside and locked the gates. According to the teacher, the parents informed them that they were demanding additional teachers for the school and asked the staff to remain inside for some time.
When asked about the staffing situation, the teacher said there are currently four teachers, along with three helpers (Aayahs) and one cook, to manage the school.
The teacher also acknowledged that more teachers are required as per the applicable norms.
The protest highlights growing concerns among parents over the teacher shortage and its impact on the education of nearly 400 students. Parents have demanded that the concerned authorities take immediate steps to address the shortage and ensure adequate teaching staff at the school.
