Tripura, 19 August 2026: In a major crackdown on the illegal production and sale of country liquor, Khowai Police conducted a large-scale anti-liquor operation in the Ramchandraghat area on Wednesday, following a tip-off about illegal liquor-making activities.
The operation was led by Khowai Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Prajit Malakar, with the participation of SIs Francis Halam and Debiprasad Chakraborty, along with a large contingent of police personnel.
Acting on the intelligence input, police conducted surprise raids at two houses located near Ramchandraghat Batatali School. The houses, reportedly belonging to Shyamal Debbarma and Bindu Debbarma, had allegedly been used for the illegal production and sale of country liquor for a prolonged period.

Police recovered approximately 500 litres of illegally prepared country liquor, along with equipment, raw materials and other items used in the production process. The seized liquor and materials were destroyed at the spot in the presence of the police team.
However, the suspected house owners managed to flee from the scene after allegedly sensing the arrival of the police.

According to police, cases have been registered against the two absconding accused, Shyamal Debbarma and Bindu Debbarma, under relevant legal provisions. A search operation has been launched to trace and arrest them.
OC Prajit Malakar said such anti-liquor drives will continue in the area and assured that the police will maintain strict action against illegal liquor production and activities linked to substance abuse.
