Tripura, 20 August 2026: Members of various surrendered militant groups in Tripura today submitted a memorandum highlighting a nine-point charter of demands to the Governor at Lok Bhavan in Agartala.
The delegation was led by JARC (Joint Action Rehabilitation Committee) convenor Jiban Joy Reang. Representatives of the JARC and JAC (Joint Action Committee) said they have been pursuing their demands for a long time and alleged that repeated delays by the government have left them frustrated.
According to Jiban Joy Reang, a total of eight representatives from the two organisations submitted the memorandum at the Governor’s office. Copies of the memorandum were also submitted to the Chief Minister, the Tribal Welfare Department, the Chief Secretary, the Joint Secretary of the Home Department, the Director General of Police, SP (Special Branch), the District Magistrate of West Tripura and the Superintendent of Police, West Tripura.
Speaking to reporters, Reang said the organisations had lost patience over what they described as prolonged delays in addressing their demands.
“We want the government to consider our demands sympathetically and resolve them at the earliest,” he said.
The delegation also sought the Governor’s intervention in resolving their issues. Reang clarified that they did not meet the Governor personally and instead submitted the memorandum at the reception section of Lok Bhavan. He said the organisations would seek an appointment with the Governor in the coming days.
The JARC convenor warned that if their demands are not addressed promptly, the two organisations would resume a larger agitation.
“If there is no solution, we will be compelled to launch a larger movement in the interest of those who have been deprived of their rights,” Reang said.
He further said that if their issues remain unresolved at the state level, the organisations plan to approach Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, and subsequently submit their demands to the President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Reang said the organisations are currently awaiting action from the Governor and the state government, but made it clear that they would not withdraw from their movement if there is no early intervention.
“We are not stepping back from our movement. We will continue it,” he said.
