Tripura, June 27: A shocking incident has left residents of Kananta Para in the Ultachhara Bru Settlement Camp under Ganda twisa in grief after a father allegedly killed his two young children.
The victims have been identified as 13-year-old Richika Bru and 4-year-old Prasmaiha Bru. The accused, Lalchuan Mauma (36), has been taken into police custody.
Following the incident, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Gandacherra, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gandacherra Police Station, and a large police team rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. Police are questioning the accused to determine the exact motive behind the crime.

The children’s mother, Romta Rong Bru, alleged that she had gone to fetch water when her husband, who was allegedly intoxicated, attacked the children with a sharp weapon, killing them.
She further claimed that her husband frequently assaulted her whenever he consumed alcohol and had been physically abusive in the past. According to her, she would often flee the house to escape the violence.

“I want my husband to be hanged. If he is released, he will come back and kill me too,” she said.
She also alleged that another young boy narrowly escaped the attack, adding that had he not managed to flee, he too might have been killed.
Police have detained the accused and are continuing their investigation. The incident has cast a pall of grief over the entire Bru settlement, with residents expressing shock and sorrow over the tragic loss of the two children.
