Agartala, June 13: Tripura’s rich cultural heritage has received national recognition with two of its folk artists being selected for prestigious honours announced by the Sangeet Natak Akademi.
Renowned folk musician Sadhagar (Surjya Kumar Debbarma), celebrated for his contribution to the traditional Tripuri musical instrument Chongpreng, has been selected for the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (Akademi Puraskar) 2025. At the same time, Raju Mog, a distinguished practitioner of the traditional Sangrain folk dance, has been chosen for the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar 2025.
The honours were approved by the General Council of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, India’s premier institution for the preservation and promotion of music, dance and drama. The awards recognize artists who have made significant contributions to the country’s diverse cultural traditions.
Sadhagar (Surjya Kumar Debbarma’s) recognition reflects decades of dedication to preserving and promoting Indigenous musical traditions, while Raju Mog’s selection highlights the growing national appreciation for Tripura’s vibrant folk dance heritage.
The achievement is being celebrated across the state as a matter of pride, bringing national attention to Tripura’s rich artistic legacy and the efforts of its cultural ambassadors in keeping traditional art forms alive for future generations.
