Tripura, June 7: Marking World Bicycle Day 2026, the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) organized a vibrant programme at the Unakoti District Sports Complex on Sunday to promote health, fitness, and environmental sustainability.
The event was attended by Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Kailashahar Municipal Council Chairperson Chapala Debray, State Wakf Board Chairperson Mobswar Ali, and other distinguished guests.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Tinku Roy highlighted the importance of the “Sunday on Cycle” initiative launched by Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. He said the programme aims to encourage people to adopt cycling every Sunday as a healthy and eco-friendly lifestyle choice.
The minister emphasized that regular cycling not only helps maintain physical fitness but also plays a significant role in reducing environmental pollution and promoting sustainable living.
As part of the celebrations, Tinku Roy participated in a tree plantation drive and later joined more than a hundred cyclists in a bicycle rally from Kailashahar to Durgapur. The programme received an enthusiastic response from local residents and participants, reinforcing the message of health consciousness and environmental responsibility.
