Tripura, 19 May 2026: Tension gripped the residents of Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel (Agartala) after a 9mm pistol was reportedly found inside a bathroom on the hostel premises yesterday. Police from New Capital Complex Police Station rushed to the spot following the incident.
According to reports, the pistol allegedly belonged to a personal security guard (PSO/PG) of BJP’s defeated Pekuajala candidate Maji Debbarma. It is suspected that the firearm was accidentally left inside the bathroom while the security personnel had gone there.
The incident triggered panic among other hostel residents, especially women staying at the hostel, who expressed concerns over safety and security.
Eyewitnesses said they were shocked after spotting the firearm inside the toilet. Later, police officials arrived at the scene and conducted an inquiry, after which it was reportedly confirmed that the pistol belonged to the candidate’s security personnel.
Residents questioned why the weapon was carried into the bathroom in the first place when there was a room available to keep it safely. However, after police intervention and clarification, the situation reportedly returned to normal.
