Agartala, May 13: Raising demands for job regularisation, salary revision and retirement benefits, the Rupaichari Block Cell Committee of the All Tripura MGNREGA Employees Welfare Association (ATMEWA) or RAM SEWA on Wednesday submitted a deputation to Rupaichari RD Block BDO Pritam Debnath.
In the memorandum signed by Hiron Tripura and Girish Chandra Reang, the association alleged that despite working sincerely since 2007, many MGNREGA employees continue to face financial insecurity and discrimination in pay structure. They claimed that while graduate and diploma holders received salary enhancement in 2012, undergraduate employees were left deprived despite performing similar duties.
The organisation placed a five-point charter of demands, including regularisation of all MGNREGA employees from their joining dates, implementation of a revised pay structure, increase of annual increment from 3 percent to 5 percent, fixing retirement age at 65 years, and extension of DA-related financial benefits to MGNREGA workers.
The association further stressed the principle of “equal pay for equal work” and urged the government to ensure dignity and financial stability for employees engaged in rural development works for years.
BDO Pritam Debnath accepted the deputation and reportedly assured that the matter would be forwarded to the higher authorities for consideration.
