Agartala: May 10. One of most veteran indigenous political leaders and a key figure in the state’s Tiprasa political movement, Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawal today launched his autobiography: Never Ending Journey – 1, Sequel 1 at the Press Club here, in the presence of political leaders, retired officers, dignitaries and family members.
The book was formally released by his wife, Linda Hrangkhawal, in the absence of Royal Scion Pradyot Bikram Manikya, who could not attend due to health issues and being out of station. Among those present at the event were MLA Ranjit Debbarma, MDC Utpal Debbarma, Gita Debbarma and Sujoy Uchoi. CEM Runiel Debbarma later joined.
Dedicating the book to his father, B.K. Hrangkhawal said the autobiography reflects real incidents from his life without exaggeration. He stated that readers are free to verify the facts through reports and historical records if they find any issue unusual.
Speaking at the event, the veteran leader said the second part of the autobiography would be more significant for the younger generation. He particularly recalled his contributions towards education and social development in the state, particularly the promotion of English-medium education in Darchawi, and similar institutions which later received support from the government and missionary organisations.
Hrangkhawal further dedicated his journey and achievements to his family members for standing beside him during difficult phases of life and supporting him in writing the book.
She also recalled her childhood interactions with Hrangkhawal and said he had long worked to protect the identity and future of the indigenous people of the state through mainstream politics. Referring to illegal infiltration and demographic changes in Tripura, she said while Hrangkhawal had witnessed the transformation of the indigenous community from majority to minority over the decades. She also has similar experience while seeing the whole northeast suffering from it.
Calling the autobiography a valuable guide for the youth, she said history helps people learn from past mistakes, achievements and struggles.
Following the release of the autobiography, a large number of copies were sold almost immediately, with supporters, admirers and well-wishers eagerly purchasing the book as a tribute to B.K. Hrangkhawal and his decades-long political journey and leadership, while many were also seen requesting the veteran leader to personally sign their copies of the book.
