Agartala, May 5, 2026: In a significant child protection intervention, the Tripura Commission for Protection of Child Rights (TCPCR) successfully rescued a minor girl from Bengaluru and reunited her with her father in Gomati district.
According to TCPCR Chairperson Jayanti Debbarma, the minor had been taken to Bengaluru by her mother in March 2025 with the alleged intention of forcing her into child marriage with an older man.
The case came to light after the girl managed to contact her father, informing him about the situation. Acting swiftly, the father approached the Commission, prompting coordinated efforts between multiple agencies.
“Through continuous communication and joint efforts involving the Gomati District Child Welfare Committee (CWC), DCPU staff, and authorities in Karnataka, the girl has now been safely brought back to Tripura,” said Debbarma.
She expressed gratitude to the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR), Karnataka, local Child Welfare Committee, and District Child Protection Unit officials in Bengaluru for their cooperation in the rescue operation.
The Chairperson further revealed that the girl had been lured away from her maternal uncle’s residence in Teliamura and was allegedly subjected to coercion and abuse. With police escort support, she was flown back to Tripura on May 5, 2026.
The rescued minor has now been handed over to her father, ensuring her safety and rehabilitation.
Debbarma also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and prioritize the safety of children. She urged families to report any cases of child distress or exploitation to local authorities, Child Welfare Committees, or the national child helpline 1098.
The rescue operation involved key contributions from TCPCR Member Secretary Madhab Paul and members Chameli Saha, Monika Debbarma, Jhuma Biswas, Maitreyee Debdutta, and Gautam Kumar Shil.
This successful intervention highlights the importance of inter-state coordination in combating child marriage and protecting children’s rights.
