Tripura, Sept 28: In a joint operation, Kadamthala Police and the 97th Yakubnagar BSF Camp apprehended a drug peddler late Friday night and seized a large consignment of banned Yaba tablets.
The accused, identified as Jakir Hossain (35) of East Churaibari village, was arrested near the Yakubnagar BSF Camp around midnight. Acting on intelligence inputs, a team led by BSF Assistant Commandant D.K. Verma, along with Kadamthala Police, intercepted a luxury Maruti Suzuki Baleno bearing registration number TR05-G-0266.
Upon searching the vehicle, officials recovered 1,950 Yaba tablets packed in 10 packets. The estimated black-market value of the seized narcotics is around ₹20 lakh. The vehicle was also taken into custody.
Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Jayanta Karmakar confirmed the seizure, adding that further investigation is underway to trace the network behind the smuggling attempt.
