Tripura, August 28: In a routine naka checking operation, Churaibari police seized a large consignment of cannabis worth nearly ₹3 lakh on Thursday afternoon after a gap of several weeks in similar interceptions.
Police stopped a container mini-truck (registration number AS01MC-6297) coming from Agartala towards Silchar. During inspection, officers discovered ten packets of dried cannabis weighing a total of 26.2 kg hidden beneath Amazon return goods inside the vehicle.
The search and seizure process was conducted in the presence of DCM T. Debbarma and forensic expert N.K. Riang. The driver, identified as Safiur Rahman (30), son of Talukdar Sardar and a resident of Baldomari Char in Assam’s Goalpara district, was immediately taken into custody.
According to police, the contraband’s estimated black-market value is around ₹3 lakh. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered, and further investigation is underway, confirmed Additional Superintendent of Police Kamal Debbarma.
