Guwahati, August 28: Torrential rains lashed Guwahati on Wednesday, inundating several parts of the city and causing severe waterlogging. The heavy downpour claimed one life in Jorabat, where a man was swept away by the strong currents.
Locals said the victim was dragged into a drain and trapped against a concrete structure by the force of the water. The deceased has been identified as Durga Sharma, a resident of Hatigarh in Sonapur.
Rescue personnel later recovered the body, which has been sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for post-mortem examination.
The incident has once again highlighted the city’s vulnerability to flash floods during the monsoon, with residents across several localities grappling with rising waters and traffic disruptions.
