Agartala, August 25: On the night of August 22, a theft took place at Mati Bhandar, a shop owned by Amalesh Dutta Majumder near Ramnagar No. 4 Sporting Club. A gang of miscreants broke into the shop and stole large quantities of cigarettes, along with a DVR, a mobile phone, copper wire, air conditioner parts, and other items.
According to police, the gang used an e-rickshaw as part of their planned operation. They first conducted surveillance of the shop and later, late at night, broke open the shutters and looted everything inside.
Following a complaint lodged by the shop owner, West Agartala Police registered a case. Acting on the investigation, police arrested three persons on Monday. A significant quantity of the stolen items has already been recovered.
Speaking to the media, SDPO (Sadar) Debaprasad Roy confirmed that a special team led by West Agartala Police Station OC Rana Chatterjee carried out the operation. He further added that one more accused linked to the case is still absconding and will soon be arrested.
Police also revealed that this is a newly active gang operating in the city, suspected to be behind several recent theft cases in Agartala.
