Teliamura, August 17: In yet another successful anti-narcotics operation, police at Mungiakami Police Station seized a massive consignment of cannabis on Sunday, marking a significant blow to illegal drug trafficking in the subdivision.
Acting on specific intelligence, a joint team led by Officer-in-Charge Sones Debbarma, along with the Sub-Divisional Police Officer and other administrative officials, intercepted a small goods vehicle at the 41 Mile naka point. The vehicle, bearing registration number TR01AY-1579, was searched, leading to the recovery of 67 packets containing approximately 134 kilograms of dry cannabis.
Police officials estimate the seized contraband to be worth over ₹20 lakh in the illegal market. The driver of the vehicle has also been taken into custody for further interrogation.
Since the posting of OC Sones Debbarma, Mungiakami Police Station has carried out several high-impact operations against drug smuggling, setting a new precedent in the region. News of today’s seizure has already created strong reactions in the area, with locals appreciating the crackdown on narcotics.
Police confirmed that further investigation is underway to trace the wider network behind the consignment.
