Tripura, 13 August 2025: The Additional District and Sessions Judge of Kamalpur has sentenced Shyamal Gour to life imprisonment for murdering his younger brother, following the conviction in court.
According to case details, on the night of March 17, 2024, at around 8:30 pm, after dinner, Uttam Gour, a resident of Gaurpara under Salema Police Station, stepped out into the courtyard of his home. Moments later, his wife and son heard his cries for help. Rushing outside, they saw Uttam’s elder brother, Shyamal Gour, attacking him on the neck with a cow post. Upon noticing them, Shyamal fled the scene.
The injured Uttam was first taken to the Halhali Primary Health Centre and then referred to Dhalai District Hospital in Kulai. However, he succumbed to his injuries around 2:00 am that night.
Based on a written complaint, Salema Police registered a case (Salema PS Case No. 06/2024 under Section 302 of the IPC) against Shyamal Gour. The case was investigated by Sub-Inspector Shyamal Jamatia, who later filed the chargesheet in court. The prosecution presented nine witnesses during the trial.
After a prolonged hearing, on August 11, the court found the accused guilty. On August 12, Judge Soumyabikash Das sentenced Shyamal Gour to rigorous life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000, with an additional six months of imprisonment in case of default. The case was prosecuted by Additional Public Prosecutor Indubhushan Deb.
