Tripura, 08 August 2025: Baijalbari police seized a large quantity of cannabis from a vehicle at Belfang Naka Point on Friday afternoon, arresting one suspect.
Acting on a tip-off, police set up an ambush at Belfang Naka Point to intercept a vehicle suspected of carrying cannabis. At around 2:30 PM, a Maruti car bearing registration number TR 04 E 0342 arrived at the checkpoint. Police immediately stopped the vehicle, but the two occupants tried to flee. Officers managed to apprehend one of them, identified as Subrata Debnath, while the other escaped.
Upon searching the car, police discovered 70 packets of dry cannabis hidden inside the door panels. According to Officer-in-Charge Jugal Tripura, the total weight of the seized contraband was 37 kilograms.
The search for the second suspect is ongoing.
