Agartala, August 8: Tripura police intercepted an auto-rickshaw near Nilgiri Dhaba on the Bypass Road while it was on its way from Kathaltali to the residence of Raja Saha in Pratapgarh. Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered 90,000 yaba tablets. The accused, identified as Subir Sutradhar, son of Haradhan Sutradhar of Pratapgarh, was immediately taken into custody last night (August 7).
According to police, the seized contraband is valued at approximately ₹1.35 crore in the illegal market. The interception follows an intensified crackdown on illegal activities along the Bypass Road in recent days, as law enforcement agencies had been receiving multiple reports of suspicious movements in the area.
The vehicle, which had reportedly come from Khairpur and was heading towards its destination in Pratapgarh, was seized on the spot. Investigations are in the preliminary stage, and authorities have yet to confirm the source of the yaba tablets or their intended delivery point. Police have assured that a thorough probe is underway to uncover the full network behind the smuggling.
Following the incident, a video related to the seizure began circulating on social media, drawing widespread public attention. However, police have questioned the authenticity of the video, calling it misleading.
This incident has once again highlighted the challenges of curbing illegal drug trafficking in the region. Authorities stress the need for greater vigilance, both from enforcement agencies and the public, to ensure timely reporting of suspicious activities.
Officials reiterated that joint efforts between police, government departments, and the community are essential to effectively combat such criminal activities.
