SHABD News | New Delhi | August 7, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a prolonged spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the Northeast and adjoining eastern India for the next seven days, with extremely heavy showers (over 21 cm) expected at isolated locations in Arunachal Pradesh on August 8.
An orange alert has been issued for Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim for today, warning of intense rainfall activity.
According to the IMD, Assam and Meghalaya are also likely to witness another round of heavy rainfall on August 12 and 13. Several northeastern states including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are expected to receive widespread downpours on August 8 and 9 (Thursday and Friday).
In northern India, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are expected to experience continued heavy rainfall till August 12, raising concerns over possible landslides and flash floods in hilly terrain.
Similar weather conditions have also been predicted over Karnataka, Bihar, and Jharkhand today.
Authorities have urged people in the affected regions to stay alert, follow local advisories, and take necessary precautions amid the active monsoon conditions.
