Agartala, August 1: A one-day district-level workshop on disaster preparedness and response was held today in Halls 2 and 3 of Pragya Bhavan, focusing on West Tripura district. The workshop was organized by the West Tripura District Disaster Management Authority.
The event was inaugurated by West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, in the presence of Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate Maniklal Das, Mohanpur SDM Subhash Dutta, State Project Officer Sharad Kumar Das, and NDRF Inspector M.K. Meena. Also in attendance were presidents, general secretaries, and members from around 150 clubs across the district, as well as representatives from the SDRF, Apda Mitra, and Civil Defence.

Addressing the participants, DM Dr. Vishal Kumar emphasized the crucial role of local clubs as a bridge between administration and community during times of natural disaster. He stated that the workshop was specially organized to engage these clubs in building a resilient response mechanism.
Highlighting the government’s priority to safeguard lives and property during disasters, he praised the proactive work done by several clubs during last year’s August flood relief operations. He assured that the suggestions and proposals put forward by clubs during the workshop would be incorporated into the District Disaster Management Plan.
He further announced that one nodal person from each club would be identified, trained, and formally inducted into Civil Defence. The DM stressed that without the active support of clubs and community organizations, the state government alone cannot effectively handle natural calamities.
During the workshop, Dr. Biswajit Debbarma encouraged clubs to take a more active role in voluntary blood donation initiatives. District Management Officer Pinky Pal delivered a PowerPoint presentation highlighting the roles and responsibilities of clubs in disaster preparedness.
Several club representatives shared their views and expressed their willingness to collaborate closely with the state government in future disaster management efforts.
The workshop concluded with a live demonstration by the NDRF team, showcasing techniques and strategies for effective disaster response.
