Agartala, August 1, 2025: A one-day workshop on “Reimagining Skill Development and Employment Infrastructure in Tripura” was held today at Pragya Bhavan. The event was jointly organized by the Tripura Institution for Transformation (TIFT) and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta, as part of an ongoing collaborative research initiative aimed at strengthening the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) ecosystem in the state.
The workshop was graced by the presence of Shri Parmananda Sarkar Banerjee, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Chief Minister of Tripura, as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized the need to align the state’s skilling efforts with emerging economic opportunities and ground realities.
Prof. Saikat Maitra and Prof. Rajesh Babu R. represented IIM Calcutta and led discussions during the workshop. Key sectors identified as high-potential areas included logistics, IT/ITES, eco-tourism, agri-processing, pharmaceuticals, and handicrafts. Discussions also touched upon hospitality, healthcare, bamboo and rubber-based industries, industrial linkage, tribal youth skilling, entrepreneurship, and digital skills.
The inputs and recommendations emerging from the workshop will contribute significantly to the final policy document and implementation roadmap being prepared by IIM Calcutta and TIFT. The proceedings and outcomes of the workshop will be widely disseminated to support evidence-based policymaking in the state.
According to a press release from TIFT, this initiative reflects the state government’s strong commitment to building a dynamic, inclusive, and future-ready skilling infrastructure. It aims to empower the youth of Tripura and accelerate the state’s economic development.
