Baijalbari, July 11: In a significant catch along the Indo-Bangladesh border region, two Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended by Baijalbari police during a routine security check at Belphang naka point on Friday evening.
According to Officer-in-Charge of Baijalbari Police Station, Jugal Tripura, an autorickshaw traveling from Baijalbari towards Khowai was stopped at the checkpoint on the Khowai–Mohanpur National Highway segment. During standard questioning, the two passengers reportedly disclosed that they were Bangladeshi citizens and had entered Indian territory without valid documents.
The detained individuals have been identified as Khokan Sarker and Anik Sarker. Both are currently being interrogated at the Baijalbari police station to ascertain the motive behind their illegal entry and possible local links.
Security has been stepped up in the area following the incident, with authorities not ruling out the possibility of a larger infiltration route being in use. Further investigation is underway.
