Tripura, 7 July, 2025: In a major crackdown on illegal narcotics, Ambassa police have seized a large consignment of Eskuf cough syrup, a controlled substance often misused as an intoxicant. The seizure was made from a 14-wheeler truck bearing registration number NL 04 D 9439, which was ostensibly transporting onions from another state to Agartala.
The vehicle was intercepted at the Betbagan police checkpoint in Ambassa. Upon thorough inspection, the police discovered 190 sacks of Eskuf syrup concealed beneath the onion load.
Upon receiving the information, District Superintendent of Police was alerted, following which Additional Superintendent of Police Uttam Banik, Ambassa Sub-Divisional Police Officer Nirupan Dutta, and Officer-in-Charge of Ambassa Police Station Nandan Das rushed to the spot. In the presence of a Deputy Collector & Magistrate (DCM), the truck was thoroughly searched and a large quantity of Eskuf syrup was recovered.
Speaking to the media, ASP Uttam Banik stated that based on a tip-off, the vehicle was intercepted in the early hours of the previous day. The search operation, conducted this morning in the presence of the DCM, led to the recovery of 190 sacks of Eskuf. Each sack contained approximately 300 bottles, bringing the total to around 57,000 bottles. With each bottle priced at ₹211.20, the estimated value of the consignment exceeds ₹1 crore.
Two individuals who were traveling in the truck have been taken into custody. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway, confirmed ASP Uttam Banik.
