Tripura, 4 July 2025: Women continue to be involved in smuggling various narcotic substances, including cannabis, and such a scene was once again witnessed yesterday in Teliamura.
Three women from outside the state were caught red-handed while attempting to smuggle cannabis illegally. Acting on a tip-off, the Teliamura police intercepted them during a vehicle checking operation.
Providing details of the incident, Woman Sub-Inspector Sumitra Debbarma said they were conducting vehicle checks near the police station when they stopped a Max vehicle travelling from Agartala to Ambassa. During the inspection, they grew suspicious of three women passengers. The suspects were then taken to the police station, where a thorough search was conducted following all legal procedures.
During the search, over 15 kilograms of dry cannabis, concealed inside their clothing, was recovered. The estimated market value of the seized contraband is over one lakh rupees.
Police have confirmed that a case has been registered under the NDPS Act at the Teliamura Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
