Agartala, Nov 4: The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) on Wednesday announced plans to strengthen its organisational network in Tripura, with a focus on youth participation, governance accountability and region-specific developmental issues.
The announcement was made by the organisation’s National Coordinator, Sheikh Sahiluddin Shah, at a press conference at the Agartala Press Club, attended by volunteers and organisational representatives from Tripura and Manipur.
Shah said Tripura had emerged as an important area of focus for the organisation, with thousands of young people expressing interest through its volunteer registration drive.
The organisation intends to convert its growing volunteer base into a structured grassroots network to highlight social, educational and developmental concerns affecting the state, he said.
The visit was part of a broader outreach initiative to engage supporters across different states and establish local organisational units.
A volunteer interaction programme was also organised alongside the press conference, during which discussions were held on organisational expansion, youth participation and strategies to address local issues through collective initiatives.
Describing CJP as an independent public platform rather than a conventional political party, Shah said its objective was to monitor governance, promote accountability and ensure that elected governments functioned in accordance with constitutional principles, irrespective of their political affiliations.
He identified unemployment, problems in the education and healthcare sectors, electricity-related issues and other developmental shortcomings as major concerns in Tripura.
The organisation plans to work closely with students and young people to identify pressing issues and launch campaigns to highlight them, he said.
Responding to questions about alleged political affiliations, Shah maintained that CJP was not an extension of any political party. He acknowledged that the organisation had supported certain movements on common concerns, particularly electoral reforms and democratic rights, but asserted that it would maintain its independent position.
He said the immediate objective was not to change governments but to promote transparency, accountability and electoral reforms.
As part of its expansion plans, CJP intends to establish a regional research and documentation team in Tripura to study issues relating to youth, social development, border-related challenges and other state-specific concerns.
Shah said strengthening the organisational structure would be the immediate priority before announcing a detailed programme of activities.
He expressed confidence that growing participation by local volunteers would help the organisation emerge as a platform for young people to raise community concerns and participate in public discourse.
