Agartala, Nov 1 : Police on Sunday reconstructed the crime scene with the prime accused in the murder of Pranay Deb alias Jun at the spot where the offence was allegedly committed in Tripura’s Teliamura, officials said.
The exercise was aimed at establishing the sequence of events leading to the murder and verifying the accused’s account against evidence collected during the investigation.
The murder took place on September 17 and has drawn considerable public attention in the region.
The prime accused, Krishnadhan Sarkar, was recently arrested and produced before the Khowai District Court, which granted him three days of police remand for further interrogation.
During the remand period, investigators took Sarkar to the alleged crime scene and asked him to demonstrate how the incident had unfolded, police sources said.
The accused reportedly narrated the sequence of events based on his statement, while investigators examined various aspects of the crime to determine whether his account was consistent with the available evidence.
The reconstruction exercise attracted the attention of local residents, who gathered near the spot to follow the developments. Police made security arrangements while escorting the accused to the location, considering the sensitivity of the case.
Officials present during the exercise included DCM Genius Debbarma of the Teliamura sub-divisional administration, the investigating officer, Teliamura Police Station’s Second Officer Inspector Bikash Debbarma and Inspector Jugal Tripura.
Personnel from Teliamura Police Station and members of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) were also deployed during the operation.
Police have not disclosed whether the reconstruction has yielded any fresh evidence or led to a significant breakthrough in the investigation.
Investigators are expected to examine the accused’s account alongside the evidence collected so far and continue questioning him during the remaining period of police custody.
The exercise forms part of the ongoing probe to establish the circumstances surrounding Deb’s death and piece together the events leading to the alleged murder.
