Tripura, 16 Oct 2026: With the Sharad festival approaching, MGNREGA workers staged a road blockade at Chankhala on the Khowai–Agartala National Highway, protesting the non-payment of their pending wages.
The protest disrupted traffic, leaving commuters and passengers stranded and causing inconvenience during the festive rush. The workers expressed concern over the delay in receiving their dues, which they said were essential to meeting household expenses and purchasing necessities for the festival.
Upon receiving information, officials from Khowai Padmabil Block reached the spot and held discussions with the protesting workers. Following assurances that the matter would be addressed, the workers withdrew the blockade, and traffic movement gradually returned to normal.
The incident has highlighted the financial challenges faced by workers awaiting their wages, particularly during the festive season. The workers have called for the prompt disbursement of their outstanding payments.
The timely resolution of the issue remains crucial to ensuring that the workers receive their legitimate dues without further delay.
