Tripura, 11 Oct 2026: A college student from Pandabpur in Sekerkote, under Amtali Police Station, died on October 7 after allegedly consuming poison following a personal relationship dispute. His family has accused his girlfriend of mentally harassing him and abetting his suicide, allegations that are yet to be established.
The deceased, identified as Tushar Das, was the elder son of Tapas Das, a driver residing in the Pandabpur area. According to family members, Tushar had been in a relationship with Priyanka Das, also known as Sagarika, the daughter of farmer Dulal Das of Daspara in Sekerkote East Para.
The two reportedly knew each other since their school days. After pursuing Priyanka for around two years, Tushar entered into a relationship with her, which allegedly continued for approximately five years. Following the completion of their school education, Tushar enrolled at Ramthakur College, while Priyanka joined an ITI college in Narsingarh.
According to the allegations, Priyanka recently left Tushar and entered into a relationship with another young man. The family further alleged that Tushar was called to a park in Agartala, where Priyanka, her new partner and a close female friend allegedly humiliated him and made hurtful remarks, including telling him to die.
After returning home, Tushar reportedly became deeply distressed. On October 4, he allegedly consumed poison after announcing his intention to take his own life during a live video broadcast.
His friends immediately rushed him to Hapania Medical College and Hospital. As his condition was critical, he was subsequently referred to ILS Hospital for further treatment. After battling for his life for two days, Tushar died at around 12:35 a.m. on October 7.
His death plunged the Pandabpur area into mourning. Family members expressed profound grief over the loss, while relatives claimed that Priyanka did not visit to pay her last respects.
On October 9, Tushar’s maternal uncle lodged a written complaint at Amtali Police Station, alleging that Priyanka Das, alias Sagarika, had caused him severe mental distress and abetted his suicide.
Police have reportedly assured the family that the allegations will be investigated and appropriate legal action will be taken if the charges are substantiated. According to the report, efforts are underway to trace Priyanka, who is alleged to be absconding.
On Sunday morning, Tushar’s maternal uncle and local residents appealed to the authorities to take appropriate legal action against the accused and her close friend, if their involvement is established.
The incident has left the bereaved family devastated and raised concerns about the emotional consequences of relationship conflicts and the importance of mental health support for young people.
The allegations against the individuals named in the complaint have not been independently verified. The investigation and findings of the police will determine the facts of the case.
