Tripura, 10 Oct 2026: A devastating fire broke out at Shimbukchak Market under Kamalpur subdivision last night at around 10:30 PM, gutting three shops and leaving the affected traders devastated.
The fire destroyed two grocery shops and one fish and meat shop. The incident triggered panic in the area, and firefighters rushed to the spot after receiving information. However, a substantial quantity of goods inside the shops was destroyed before the situation could be brought under control.
The incident has left the affected shop owners facing severe financial hardship, as their businesses were their primary source of livelihood. One of the traders, who had been running his business for 19 years, is reportedly struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss.
According to the affected shopkeeper, around Rs 45,000 in cash was kept inside his shop and was destroyed in the fire. Business account books, an Aadhaar card and other important documents were also reportedly reduced to ashes. He estimated his individual losses at approximately Rs 6 lakh.
Having spent nearly two decades building his business, the trader is now worried about how to restart operations and support his family.
The total financial loss suffered by the owners of all three shops has not yet been officially assessed. The cause of the fire also remains unclear.
The incident has raised concerns about the future of the affected families, who have lost their primary means of earning a livelihood. The traders are hoping for a proper assessment of the damage and financial assistance, if available under applicable government schemes.
The fire at Shimbukchak Market has not only destroyed three shops but has also dealt a major blow to the livelihoods and financial security of the families dependent on them.
