Tripura, October 8, 2026: The 140th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) organised a Civic Action Programme at its C Company in Jampuijala, Tripura, on Thursday, with the aim of empowering economically disadvantaged women and promoting self-reliance. As part of the initiative, five sewing machines were distributed among members of the Community-Level Federation (CLF) to help women develop income-generating skills and become financially independent.
The programme was organised as part of the CRPF’s continued efforts to strengthen community relations and support the socio-economic development of underprivileged sections of society. The distribution of sewing machines is expected to create opportunities for women to earn a livelihood and contribute to their families’ financial well-being.
The CRPF stated that similar public welfare initiatives had been undertaken in the past and would continue in the future. Alongside the distribution of sewing machines, the force also supports vocational training in trades such as carpentry and plumbing. Necessary tools are provided to trained individuals to help them apply their skills and establish sustainable livelihood opportunities.
The headquarters of the 140th CRPF Battalion is located in Ambassa, while its C Company is stationed at Jampuijala.
Dhirendra Kumar Mohanty, Second-in-Command of the 140th CRPF Battalion, attended the programme as the chief guest. Other dignitaries present included Jampuijala Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Jayanta Dubey, Jampuijala Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shakti Sadhan Jamatia, CLF trainer Ajit Debbarma, his team members and women from the surrounding areas.
Speaking about the initiative, Inspector GD Shoraj Ganwar, who is posted at the Jampuijala C Company of the 140th CRPF Battalion, said that one of the force’s primary objectives is to empower economically disadvantaged people from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families and help them become self-reliant.
He also highlighted the CRPF’s commitment to extending support at the grassroots level for the implementation of various public welfare schemes launched by the Central Government.
Through such initiatives, the 140th CRPF Battalion seeks to strengthen its engagement with local communities while creating opportunities for skill development, women’s empowerment and sustainable livelihoods in the region.
