Agartala, October 7: Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Wednesday urged newly admitted students of Maharaja Bir Bikram College to focus on acquiring knowledge and skills while developing discipline, values and a sense of responsibility.
Addressing the Nabin Baran (Freshers’ Welcome) ceremony for the 2026-27 academic session at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, Chowdhury said college life was an important phase that would help students shape their future.
“Today begins one of the most important chapters of your life. College is not just about academic learning—it is about discovering yourself, gaining knowledge and skills, enriching values, and preparing to turn your dreams into reality,” he said.
The minister told the students that their years in college should be used to develop both academic capabilities and personal qualities.
He urged them to set clear goals, work hard and remain committed to their aspirations while understanding their responsibilities towards society.
Chowdhury said the students of Maharaja Bir Bikram College could contribute to the development of Tripura and the country by making the best use of the opportunities provided through higher education.
“Your success will be Tripura’s success. Dream, work hard, and remain steadfast in your goals. May your journey be illuminated with knowledge, achievement, humanity, and a bright future,” he said.
The Nabin Baran programme welcomed hundreds of newly admitted students into the college community and marked the formal beginning of their higher education journey.
The ceremony also provided an opportunity for the freshers to familiarise themselves with the institution and its academic environment.
Students were encouraged to maintain discipline, pursue academic excellence and participate constructively in social and cultural activities during their college years.
The programme emphasised the importance of character-building and responsible citizenship alongside formal education.
Maharaja Bir Bikram College is one of Tripura’s prominent higher educational institutions and has contributed to the state’s academic and cultural life.
The minister’s presence at the programme highlighted the importance attached to youth development and higher education.
The ceremony concluded with best wishes to the new batch for their academic journey.
The students were urged to remain focused on their goals and use their time at the college to build knowledge, skills and values that would help them contribute to society and the state’s future development.
