Agartala, October 1: The Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) and Tata Trusts are working on a proposed collaboration to promote rural livelihoods and strengthen beneficiary infrastructure in three Aspirational Blocks of the state, officials said.
The initiative, which is currently under discussion, will cover Dasda and Damcherra in North Tripura and Ganganagar in Dhalai district.
The proposed programme is expected to have a five-year duration, beginning in January 2027 and continuing until November 2031. Tata Trusts is likely to provide an outlay of around Rs 15 crore for implementing the programme, according to officials.
The proposal was discussed during a video conference on Wednesday between TRLM CEO Tarit Kanti Chakma and representatives of Tata Trusts.
The meeting focused on the broad objectives of the programme, its proposed implementation mechanism and areas where the two organisations could work together.
Officials said the initiative is designed to provide direct support to around 3,500 rural households in the three identified blocks.
Another 1,500 households are proposed to benefit through convergence with livelihood programmes and interventions being undertaken by TRLM.
Piggery, duckery and fishery have been identified among the key livelihood activities proposed under the programme. Support will also be extended towards infrastructure that beneficiaries require to establish, expand and sustain these activities.
The proposed infrastructure component is intended to complement livelihood assistance and help rural households maintain income-generating activities over the longer term, officials said.
The collaboration is also expected to strengthen convergence between the proposed Tata Trusts programme and existing TRLM interventions, enabling resources and programmes to be coordinated for greater beneficiary coverage.
During the meeting, representatives of both sides examined the proposed areas of intervention and discussed issues relating to beneficiary coverage, implementation and project support.
Further consultations are expected before the detailed framework is finalised.
The organisations will need to determine the respective roles and responsibilities of the partners, the process for selecting beneficiaries and the nature of livelihood and infrastructure assistance under the programme.
A Memorandum of Understanding between TRLM and Tata Trusts is proposed to be signed after the modalities are worked out and mutually agreed upon.
Officials said the partnership has not yet been formalised and remains under discussion.
Once finalised, the programme will focus on rural households in the three Aspirational Blocks, with emphasis on livelihood promotion, income generation and infrastructure support.
The proposed initiative is aimed at creating sustainable livelihood opportunities while strengthening the delivery and convergence of development interventions in rural areas of Tripura, officials said.
