Agartala, September 27: Polling teams carrying election materials left dispatch centres across Tripura on Sunday and headed for their assigned booths as authorities completed preparations for Monday’s Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
The movement of officials and security personnel was visible in several areas as polling teams were transported to their respective stations ahead of the vote.
In Ambassa RD Block in Dhalai district, polling personnel began departing from the designated dispatch centre at around 8 am for 41 polling stations in the block.
Officials supervising the process said polling teams had been instructed to reach their destinations within the stipulated time and complete arrangements at the booths before voting begins.
Returning Officer and BDO Barnita Biswas said adequate measures had been taken for the movement and security of polling personnel.
“Our priority is to ensure that all polling personnel reach their stations safely and that the polling process is conducted peacefully,” Biswas told reporters.
She appealed to voters to turn up at polling stations without apprehension and exercise their franchise while maintaining peace and discipline.
The Village Committee elections are being held after a gap of 10 years, making Monday’s polling a significant exercise for residents of the ADC areas.
The elections will be conducted using ballot papers rather than electronic voting machines. For many young and first-time voters, the process will therefore involve casting a ballot through the paper-based system.
Election officials have also made arrangements for the transportation of ballot papers, ballot boxes and other polling materials to the stations. Security personnel have been deployed along the routes and at polling locations as part of measures to ensure an orderly voting process.
The dispatch of polling teams is among the final stages of preparations for the elections, with officials monitoring the movement of personnel and materials to ensure that all stations are ready before polling starts.
The polls are being held amid heightened political activity in the TTAADC areas, where political parties have conducted meetings, campaigns and other organisational programmes in the run-up to voting.
Authorities have urged voters and political workers to cooperate with election officials and maintain a peaceful atmosphere during polling.
With polling scheduled for Monday, the administration is now focused on ensuring that polling stations are operational, election personnel are in position and voters can exercise their franchise without disruption.
