Agartala, September 26: The Tripura government has reconstituted the Tripura State Commission for Women (TCW) with the appointment of three new members, while retaining Jharna Debbarma as its Chairperson for another three-year term.
Sujata Deb, Megha Paul (Chowdhury) and Mampi Das have been appointed as members against existing vacancies. Their tenure will be for three years from the respective dates on which they assume charge.
The appointments were notified by the Education (Social Welfare & Social Education) Department through an order issued on September 25, 2026, by the Special Secretary to the Government of Tripura.
Under a separate provision of the notification, Debbarma has been reappointed as Chairperson of the Commission for a further three years with effect from September 24, 2026.
Her reappointment has been made under Section 6(iv) of the relevant Gazette Notification and the Tripura Commission for Women Rules, 2008, which lay down the service conditions of the Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and members of the Commission.
The government has also circulated the appointment orders to senior constitutional and administrative authorities, including the Governor, Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, besides concerned officials of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department.
With the latest reconstitution, the Commission will have continuity in its leadership along with the induction of three new members. The TCW is responsible for taking up matters concerning women’s rights, welfare, safety and empowerment in the state.
The Commission’s responsibilities include addressing grievances and issues affecting women and undertaking initiatives relating to awareness and welfare. The new appointments are expected to add to its functioning as it continues its statutory responsibilities across Tripura.
The reappointment of Debbarma and induction of the three members come as part of the government’s latest administrative order concerning the composition and functioning of the state women’s rights body.
