Agartala, September 25: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday said the principles advocated by Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, including Integral Humanism and ‘Antyodaya’, remain relevant to efforts aimed at ensuring inclusive development and the welfare of disadvantaged sections.
He made the remarks at a programme organised by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department at Muktadhara Auditorium here to commemorate Upadhyaya’s birth anniversary.
Saha said Upadhyaya’s concept of ‘Antyodaya’ placed particular emphasis on ensuring that development and welfare benefits reach people at the last mile. He said the philosophy continues to serve as an inspiration for pursuing the comprehensive development of society.
The programme began with dignitaries offering floral tributes to Upadhyaya’s portrait.
Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, MLA Meena Rani Sarkar, ICA Director Bimbisar Bhattacharya, local corporators and other dignitaries attended the event.
Recalling Upadhyaya’s life and contribution, Saha spoke about his views on Indian society and culture and his emphasis on improving the quality of life of people. He described him as a prominent thinker and philosopher who made a contribution to India’s social and political thought.
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of continuing efforts to support people at the margins of society and said Upadhyaya’s ideals could provide inspiration in pursuing public welfare.
Other speakers discussed Upadhyaya’s life, highlighting his simple lifestyle, patriotism and organisational abilities. They also recalled his emphasis on the upliftment of disadvantaged sections.
The programme was attended by party workers, supporters and members of the public and featured commemorative proceedings and floral tributes in remembrance of Upadhyaya.
